Aramco Asia Korea has partnered with various Seoul-based organisations to launch a multi-use plastic food trays initiative at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, South Korea.

Aramco Asia Korea, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aramco, has launched an initiative aimed at enhancing the awareness of Seoul’s residents and sports enthusiasts on the importance of responsible and ecofriendly plastic usage.

Aramco Korea is supporting the Multi-use Plastic Food Tray Program, which will create and distribute roughly 100,000 reusable food and beverage trays to Jamsil Baseball Stadium spectators. This effort is a collaboration between the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Metropolitan Council, the Seoul Association of Self-Proficiency Centers, the Doosan Bears, LG Sports, and Amoje.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held in City Hall on April 12. The event was attended by notable figures including Khalid Radi, Acting Representative Director of Aramco Asia Korea; Se-hoon Oh, Mayor of Seoul; Yang-soon Bong, Head of Environment and Water Resources Committee, and a member of Seoul Metropolitan Council; Young-seop Ko, President of the Doosan Bears; In-seok Kim, CEO of LG Sports; Hye-yeon Yoon, Chairman of the Seoul Association of Self-Sufficiency Promotion Centers; and Hee-ho Shin, President of Amoje.

This citizenship program aims to replace single-use food containers with the reusable trays, reducing plastic waste. These multi-use trays will be washed and sterilized at designated facilities, ensuring their safe reuse at future events.

The initiative is expected to notably increase waste separation rates within the stadium and emphasize the importance of responsible disposal and recycling.

At the initiative ceremony, Khalid Radi, Acting Representative Director of Aramco Asia Korea, remarked: “Our initiative is a simple yet powerful testament to what we can achieve when we put our minds to solving the problems that matter. By introducing reusable plastic food trays at this landmark baseball stadium, we’re not just reducing waste; we’re inviting hundreds of thousands and millions of fans to join us in making a conscious choice for the environment.”

Seoul Mayor Se-hoon Oh stated, “The usage of reusable plastic food trays at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which is the home ground of Seoul-affiliated baseball teams, exemplifies the city’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.” He added, “With this initiative, Jamsil Baseball Stadium is set to become a more attractive destination in Seoul, leading the way in fostering an eco-friendly sports viewing culture.”

Aramco, the majority shareholder of S-OIL and the second largest shareholder of HD Hyundai Oilbank, has a strong track record of fostering positive change through business and technological collaborations with key Korean entities.

Last year, Aramco Korea initiated a project to place benches made from recycled plastic in Taehwagang National Garden, Ulsan. In 2022, the Company also launched the ‘Seoul Learn X Aramco Coding School’ to address the digital divide among underprivileged students. Moreover, Aramco Korea has actively participated in various social initiatives, including support Korea’s fight against COVID-19 and providing scholarships for students with disabilities.

This latest collaboration between Aramco Korea and Seoul signifies a major step forward in promoting sustainable practices within the community, demonstrating a shared goal of making a meaningful impact.
