The world’s leading nutraceutical event, Vitafoods Europe, will move to Barcelona in 2025, allowing it to grow in line with market projections for the booming nutraceutical market.

Informa Markets, the organisers of Vitafoods Europe, announced that their flagship event for the global nutraceutical and supplement business would be held at Fira Barcelona in 2025. The event will return to Geneva, Switzerland, for the final time from May 14 to 16, 2024, for what is expected to be its largest event to date.

The well-considered decision to relocate the event to Barcelona will allow it to grow in pace with market demand, attracting more guests and exhibitors each year and providing more business prospects for exhibitors and visitors. According to Grand View Research, the worldwide nutraceuticals market will develop at a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.3% by 2030.

Speaking on the move, Natasha Berrow, executive vice president for food at Informa Markets, said: “After over two-and-a-half incredible decades in Geneva, we’re excited to announce that Barcelona will be the home of Vitafoods Europe from 2025. From humble beginnings in 1997 with just 100 exhibitors and a 2,500m2 show floor, Vitafoods Europe now welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year to connect, learn, and be inspired.

Fira Barcelona, located in Barcelona, Spain, new home for Vitafoods Europe.

“The move is the result of the amazing growth we’ve had over the decades, and our new home will allow the event – and the companies that visit or exhibit – to continue to grow in line with the fast-paced nutraceutical market.”

After months of investigation, Spain was identified as the appropriate site for Vitafoods Europe. According to Frost & Sullivan research, it is a significant test market for new nutraceutical product launches and one of the top five countries in the European nutraceuticals market, which accounts for 66% of the market.

Barcelona is also a very accessible city, with around 40,000 hotel rooms available and nearly 3,000 flights departing from its airport each week, connecting to roughly 200 airports globally, including those in North America, South America, Asia, and Africa. The city will improve the Vitafoods Europe experience for all attendees as a bustling and appealing location to visit with a vibrant food culture.

Berrow added: “Our goal, as always, is to serve the needs of the nutraceutical community, both now and for years to come. As the industry evolves, so too does Vitafoods Europe. Barcelona has been selected as our new home after extensive research and listening to both our exhibitors and visitors, carefully considering what matters most to them.

“What’s more, Barcelona is not only a key European market for nutraceuticals, but it also has the right mix of vibrant architecture, culture, and atmosphere to match the vivacious spirit of our community. Thanks to the robust infrastructure offered by both the city and the venue, Fira Barcelona, this is just the next step in a long and exciting future for Vitafoods Europe.

“We would, of course, like to thank the Geneva Palexpo team for a wonderful 26 years. We’re excited to bring our best-ever Vitafoods Europe yet to Geneva in 2024 before welcoming in the next chapter with our much-loved community in Barcelona in May 2025.”
